Sara Cassidy’s non-fiction, fiction and poetry has won numerous awards, including a National Magazine Award for non-fiction, the Atlantic Writing Competition for poetry, and a BC Book Prize for children's writing. Her 23 children's books have been nominated for the City of Victoria Children’s Book Prize, Governor General's Literary Award, and other honours.

Sara has degrees in journalism, English and philosophy. She has taught at the University of Victoria, Camosun College and Royal Roads University, and loves presenting in schools. She works in communications for the BC Ministry of Health and as an editor for private clients and on contract for Orca Books.


Sara has been a newspaper reporter, treeplanter in five Canadian provinces, and a human rights witness in Guatemala.


Sara lives in sxʷeŋ'xʷəŋ taŋ'exw (James Bay), on the edge of the Salish Sea, where lək̓ʷəŋən People, today the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations, have fished and gathered since time immemorial. She also spends as much time as possible in Burgundy, France.
