Sara Cassidy's writing has won numerous awards,,including a National Magazine Award (Gold) for non-fiction, the Atlantic Writing Competition for poetry, and a BC Book Prize for children's writing. Her 23 children's books have been nominated for the Governor General's Literary Award, the TD Canadian Children's Book Award, and the City of Victoria Children’s Book Prize.

Sara works as a writer, journalist, teacher, editor, and communications professional in sxʷeŋ'xʷəŋ taŋ'exw (James Bay), on the edge of the Salish Sea, where the lək̓ʷəŋən People, today the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations, have fished and gathered since time immemorial.
